Verbella Scanner Overview
Verbella CMG, is a VAR or Value added reseller, A Value Added Reseller is a company that can go in and understand the customers imaging requirements, and then recommend a solution that exceeds that that customer's requirements.
In some cases the solutions is as simple as recommending a scanner, but in other cases it often it goes beyond that.
VAR's can recommend complete imaging solutions for your environment, including software, architecture, server and PC recommendation and maintenance plans for your capture equipment.
Scanner Manufactures distribute their scanners through 2 types of channels. The first are the large e-commerce on-line stores. These online outlets tend to have very good pricing, but it typical ends there. it is generally very difficult to interact with anyone who has any first hand knowledge of the scanner you are purchasing, nor the optional components that interface with it. Typically these scanner options, consumables, or maintenance options, are priced higher then list price in order to make up the margin on the scanner. Since these Online store maintain inventory, they will often continue to push discontinued equipment, software, or optional interface equipment such as Adrenaline Cards from Kofax. You really need to do your research before purchasing from an online e-competence outlet.
The second way scanner manufactures distribute their equipment and services is through VARs. VARs tend to be a little more expenses then the online stores, but can work with their prospects to insure that they are purchasing the right equipment for the right purposes. For example, a here at Verbella we can do the following:
- Obtain evaluation scanner for the end-user try for periods of 30 - 60 - 90 days
- Work with the prospect on trading in their existing scanners.
- Provide demos of scanners.
- Bring in a scanner manufacture to provide expert demos and and answer questions
- Provide far more Maintenance options then the online e-commerce resellers
- Customize Maintenance and support contracts, and manage their renewal.
- Provide Scanner Consumables
- As a VAR have direct access to the scanner manufacture if there is ever a scanner or service issue.
- Provide insight into what software works best with which scanner.
- Keep you posted to changes in programs and manufacture rebates.
- Coordinate the deliver of the scanner from anyone of 4 Scanner distributions centers
- Recommend the scanner
At Verbella - when recommending a scanner it's import to consider the following:
- The number of pages a day being scanned? This will determine the throughput of the scanner or PPM (pages per minute)
- Are the documents Single sided or Double sided? This will allow us to determine if the Scanner should be capable of handling double sided paper (duplex) or just single sided (Simplex)
- How many documents at once will be scanned or what is the average number of pages in a batch? This will determine how large the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) should be.
- Do the documents need to be captured in Color? This will determine if the scanner should support color scanning (all Fujitsu do, only half of the Kodaks)
- Are there odd sizes of paper being scanned or are books or manuals being scanned? This would allow us to determine weather a flatbed feature or option would be required
- Are the pages odd sizes, upside down, require color, and the size of the document is important? If so, then this would cause us to recommend scanners running VRS (Virtual ReScan software from Kofax). VRS will automatically correct the orientation of the image based on content, crop, deskew and smooth the color in color images while creating the smallest file size possible. Most Fujitsu scanners come with VRS, it's optional for Kodaks. Click here to find out more about VRS
In the end, Scanner manufactures like working with VARs, because it's their customers that will be much more satisfied with their scanner purchase and their ongoing support provided from their VAR.
